By joining the biggest community of bird lovers in Australia, you can help us make a positive impact on the future of our native birdlife. The members of BirdLife Australia, along with our supporters and partners, have been powerful advocates for native birds and the conservation of their habitats since 1901.

We are also the meeting ground for everyone with an interest in birds from the curious backyard observer to the dedicated research scientist. It doesn’t matter what your interest in birds is or how much you know about them, your membership will offer you the opportunity to increase your awareness and enjoyment.

Birdlife Australia would be delighted to welcome you as a new member and we look forward to sharing our news and achievements with you throughout the coming year.

          What’s On

We’ve got lots of gatherings going on

BirdLife Australia holds regular events throughout the year and many of these have been taking place for several decades, which makes them an important part of our history. These gatherings are a way of bringing together avian researchers, conservationists, educators, our members, and other parts of the community with a keen interest in Australia's birds. Naturally, all are welcome.

          Events Calendar

If you are looking for something locally – a field trip, conservation or educational activities you can get involved in, or simply a short stint of birdwatching, please browse our Calendar for times and events that suit you or visit one of our local branch web pages.

          Congress & Campout

One of our major events is the Congress & Campout, which has a more regional flavour, and rotates around the country every two years. It is held anytime between September and December depending on the region. The Congress is a full day of presentations from different exciting speakers, and the Campout is a range of outings, field trips, and visits to birding hot spots around the region hosting the event, which extends into the following week.

          Australasian Ornithological Conference

The Australasian Ornithological Conference is held every two years, bringing together researchers and conservationists from all over the world to present and share their latest explorations into birds and their habitats.
