It doesn’t matter what your interest in birds is or how much you know about them, your membership will offer you the opportunity to increase your awareness and enjoyment.

Birdlife Australia would be delighted to welcome you as a new member and we look forward to sharing our news and achievements with you throughout the coming year.

The list of threatened species is growing and the number of Critically Endangered birds on the brink of extinction is a serious concern. Over 50 Australian birds are classified as Endangered or Critically Endangered. And birds such as the Regent Honeyeater and Australian Painted Snipe are facing extinction. You can help BirdLife Australia stop extinction by making a monthly gift to protect Australia’s most threatened birds and their habitats.

Wildbird Protector gifts allow BirdLife Australia to support long-term bird conservation programs that are critical to the birds’ survival.

          Wildbird Protector regular giving includes:

          • Easy sign up with direct debit or credit card
          • Quarterly Australian Birdlife magazine and monthly BirdLife Australia e-news to keep you up to date with the latest in bird conservation features, news, and events
          • Gifts are tax deductible with a consolidated tax receipt annually in July

           Donations and Appeals

Over 200 species of birds in Australia are considered threatened, and yet there is so much that can be done today to give them a brighter future. While our conservation actions are made all the more effective thanks to the dedication of tens of thousands of volunteers, we need your help to continue essential research and conservation programs in areas where our native birds most need help.

          BirdLife Australia Fundraising Statement

          What we stand for?

We apply science and empower people to save Australia’s threatened birds and protect nature.

          Why do we need donations?

The task of achieving BirdLife Australia’s vision of a Bright Future for Australia’s Birds is ambitious and involves considerable resources in scientific research, community endeavour and organisational capacity.  Membership fees provide only limited funds for conservation and government funding for threatened species conservation has declined dramatically in recent years.  As a not-for-profit organisation, BirdLife Australia partners with our wonderful donors to co-invest in long-term bird conservation programs that deliver on-ground results.  Growing our fundraising income is essential to achieve our goals and making a lasting difference.

          Our fundraising communications

BirdLife Australia employs a small professional fundraising team who generate funds for the program priorities identified by our Strategic Plan and Bird Conservation Strategy.  As a science-based organisation, our fundraising communications seek to inspire donors to invest in our programs.  These communications are rigorously fact-checked for accuracy.

          How are the funds spent?

Our fundraising communications may include appeals which are tied (specific funding for an integrated program, including fieldwork, advocacy, communications etc) or untied (general funding support for the area of greatest need, often by illustrating examples of our work).

BirdLife Australia is a member of the Fundraising Institute of Australia and follows its guidelines as a minimum standard.

          What we do not do

BirdLife Australia will not accept tax-deductible donations for programs administered by another organisation (auspicing).  This ensures the organisation retains accountability for the expenditure of public donations received for bird and habitat conservation.

          Our fundraising costs

BirdLife Australia aims to keep our overheads low to ensure the maximum amount of your donation dollar goes to support the work we do to save birds.  Our fundraising program is a low cost model, with most activities managed in-house by our professional fundraising team

          Administration of funds

BirdLife Australia administers all donations within the framework of the Fundraising Institute of Australia’s guidelines.  The Australian Bird Fund Committee ensures all donations are properly accounted for and expenditure is authorised in accordance with the BirdLife Australia Constitution and guidelines applying to the Register of Environmental Organisations.
